U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, May 13, leading a high-level delegation and receiving an official welcome from Chinese authorities. According to Reuters, Chinese officials, a military honor guard and a group of students waving the flags of both countries attended the welcoming ceremony upon Trump’s arrival. Several prominent American business figures, including Jensen Huang, Elon Musk and Tim Cook, are accompanying Trump during the visit. The trip is reportedly aimed at strengthening economic ties and addressing trade disputes between the two countries. Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss trade relations, the Iran issue and tensions surrounding Taiwan. Reuters reported that Washington hopes Beijing will cooperate on matters related to Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. The Taiwan issue is also expected to be one of the key topics in the talks between the two sides.
