Hannah Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, has warned that deporting Afghan migrants to Afghanistan would not improve security and could instead strengthen the Taliban and contribute to the spread of terrorism. In a post on X on Tuesday, May 12, Neumann said deportations place heavy pressure on people and could lead to negative social and security consequences. She stressed that if European countries are serious about security concerns, they should also reconsider their migration policies and foreign policy approaches. The European lawmaker had previously described the deportation of Afghan migrants as a “strategic mistake,” warning that some returnees, faced with difficult conditions, could become dependent on networks and religious schools linked to the Taliban.
