The United Nations has said that more than 13.8 million people in Afghanistan are facing severe food insecurity, while nearly five million children and pregnant or breastfeeding women are suffering from malnutrition. According to a UN report, overlapping economic crises, job losses, climate shocks, and regional tensions have contributed to rising prices and worsening food conditions across the country. The World Food Programme warned that declining stocks of specialized food supplies are putting assistance for women and children at risk. A WFP official in Afghanistan said nutritional aid and food packages remain a lifeline for millions of women and children. The United Nations had previously stated that around 22 million people in Afghanistan are in need of humanitarian assistance.
