The United Nations said in its latest report that Taliban morality enforcers arbitrarily detained 336 people over the past three months. The report also documented 59 cases of mistreatment involving women and men during the same period. Most cases were linked to beard and hair trimming, playing or listening to music, and alleged violations of the Taliban’s hijab “guidelines.” According to the report, individuals accused of selling or buying gifts for Valentine’s Day were detained in three provinces. In addition, during the month of Ramadan, some people who were fasting but did not attend Tarawih prayers or failed to close their shops during prayer times were detained by morality enforcers and, in some cases, subjected to mistreatment.
