Taliban Reject Pakistan’s Accusation Over Bannu Attack

The Taliban government has rejected Pakistan’s claim that a recent deadly attack in the city of Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was planned from inside Afghanistan, calling the accusation “baseless.” According to Zabihullah Mujahid, the allegations do not reflect reality and the Taliban denies any responsibility for the attack. In the assault, which took place on Saturday evening in Bannu, a vehicle bomb was detonated before gunmen launched an attack on a security facility. At least 15 police officers were killed. A militant group calling itself “Ittihad al-Mujahideen” claimed responsibility for the attack. Pakistan, however, continues to allege that some attacks on its territory are planned or directed from Afghanistan. As part of its response, Islamabad summoned the Taliban government’s chargé d’affaires and lodged a formal protest. The dispute comes amid continuing tensions between the Taliban authorities in Afghanistan and Islamabad since the Taliban returned to power. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militant groups of operating from Afghan territory, while the Taliban rejects the claims and says Pakistan’s security problems are an internal matter.
