Pope Leo, the leader of the Catholic Church, has warned during his visit to Africa that ongoing wars and the weakening of international institutions could pose a serious threat to the future of humanity. In a speech in Equatorial Guinea, he emphasized that a lack of political accountability and disregard for international agreements are pushing the world toward “tragic” consequences. The Pope also criticized the political and economic exploitation of natural resources, particularly oil and minerals in some countries, saying it is a key factor intensifying conflicts. He further warned that the use of religion to justify violence is a dangerous distortion and should not be used to legitimize wars. These remarks were made during his broader African tour, where he has also focused on issues such as social justice, human rights, and global inequality.
