The New York Times, citing sources, has reported that the administration of Donald Trump is considering relocating Afghan allies of the United States from a camp in Qatar to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. According to the report, approximately 1,100 individuals were transferred to Qatar following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and are currently being housed in a temporary facility. It is said that more than 400 children are among them, including interpreters, commando forces, and family members of U.S. military personnel. An organization supporting Afghan refugees in the United States stated that these individuals have remained in a state of uncertainty for years and that returning to Afghanistan would be dangerous for them. Meanwhile, some refugee rights advocates have described the plan as a “betrayal of U.S. allies” and warned that sending them back could expose them to serious risks. So far, the White House and the U.S. Department of State have not issued an official response on the matter.
