Iran Says Talks Were ‘Steps Away’ from Final Agreement

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that his country’s delegation was only a few steps away from reaching an “Islamabad Agreement” during recent negotiations with the United States. In a statement posted on X, Araghchi described the talks as the highest-level negotiations between Iran and the United States in 47 years. He said the Iranian delegation entered the discussions in “good faith” with the aim of ending the conflict. However, he accused the US delegation of “excessive demands, shifting positions, and pressure,” which he said prevented a final agreement. Araghchi added, “We learned no lesson; goodwill brings goodwill, and hostility brings hostility.” The talks began on Saturday morning and continued for 21 hours into early Sunday but ended without a concrete agreement.
