KABUL: The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has reported that the Taliban have detained a girl who refused to enter a forced marriage. In its latest report, the organization indicates that the girl is under 18 years old and was arrested after her refusal to comply with the marriage demands of the Taliban. The report, dated February 8, 2026, includes information from the previous year, specifically October and November. It states that the girl was imprisoned by order of a Taliban court and remains in their custody according to UNAMA’s information. The report does not disclose the girl’s name, location, or identity, nor does it mention the court that issued her detention. UNAMA noted that it learned of this incident through media sources in June 2025, which reported that the Taliban had imprisoned a girl in Kunduz province for refusing a forced marriage.
