KABUL: At least 14 former members of Afghanistan’s military have been killed over the past three months of 2025, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a report released this week. In its latest report, UNAMA has stated that during the same period, there were 28 recorded instances of illegal and arbitrary detentions of former soldiers by the Taliban, with seven others reportedly tortured or mistreated. According to the organization, the victims were primarily individuals who had recently returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan. In one case, UNAMA reported that in the Jibal Saraj district of Parwan province, two individuals associated with the former government were shot and killed in separate incidents. Local sources have confirmed these events.
