UNFPA ensures life-saving health services for mothers and children in Kandahar

KABUL: The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has announced that health services for mothers and children continue at the “Kandahar Transit Health Center,” where trained midwives are engaged in ensuring safe deliveries. The organization stated on its X page that health teams in Kandahar are working to provide safe access to services for pregnant women even in challenging conditions. The UN highlighted that the clinic operates with support from the UK and “returns hope and dignity to families with every safe delivery.” It is important to note that the lack of health services, the shortage of female doctors, and limited access to health centers for women are among the main reasons for the high maternal mortality rate in Afghanistan. Previously, local sources in Badghis reported that a woman lost her life during childbirth due to her inability to reach a health center. UNICEF also reported that over one million pregnant and lactating women in Afghanistan face malnutrition, with limited access to health services.
