TEHRAN: The Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, has called the armies of countries that have called the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization as terrorist groups themselves. In a speech to Parliament, Qalibaf stated that according to Iran’s laws, those who label the IRGC as a terrorist group are themselves terrorists. He added that by targeting the IRGC, Europeans have “sawn their own feet” and have once again blindly accepted U.S. orders. Recently, the European Union took a symbolic step by declaring the IRGC a terrorist organization. This announcement came after the IRGC violently suppressed widespread protests across Iran. The protests, which have been unprecedented since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, began on December 28 in response to the plummeting value of the Iranian rial and rising prices. The demonstrations spread to other provinces and evolved into widespread protests against the regime.
