WASHINGTON: Donald Trump, President of the United States, has said that Washington is “seriously” considering military action against Iran, while simultaneously indicating that Tehran has proposed negotiations. In remarks made on Sunday evening, Trump stated that Iran is seeking to negotiate because, in his words, they are “tired of being harmed by the United States.” The U.S. President also accused Iran of crossing a “red line,” claiming that Iranian officials are suppressing protesters. He added, “We are taking this matter very seriously. The military is reviewing it, and we are considering some very strong options. We will make a decision.” Meanwhile, the U.S.-based Iran Human Rights Activists News Agency has reported that at least 538 individuals have been killed in violence related to the protests, with 490 of them being protesters. The agency also noted that over 10,600 individuals have been arrested by Iranian authorities. On the other hand, Iranian officials have warned that they would respond in kind if the U.S. were to launch a military attack. Iran has yet to issue an official response to Donald Trump’s recent statements.
