KABUL: A new report from Israel’s Channel 13 claims that U.S. actions in the drug war in Venezuela serve as a cover for broader economic and geopolitical objectives. According to the report, Washington’s primary goal is to gain access to Venezuela’s rich oil resources and counter the growing influence of Russia and China in the country. The U.S. views the alleged drug trafficking threat from Venezuela as a pretext for its interventions. Experts contend that statistics related to drug-related casualties have been exaggerated. Venezuela possesses the second-largest oil reserves in the world, following Saudi Arabia. The U.S. is also keen on curbing the influence of Russia and China in the region. In response to this report, some U.S. officials, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, have declared such interventions illegal and harmful to national security. Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of France’s left-wing party, has condemned the actions as “oil looting” of Venezuela. In contrast, Israeli officials have supported the U.S. actions, describing them as “historic leadership” by Trump. China has characterized these interventions as a blatant violation of international law and has called for the release of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The Venezuelan government has labeled these actions as a “military invasion” and has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. Some of America’s allies have also emphasized the need to respect international law.
