KABUL: The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded to the U.S. attacks on Venezuela, stating that the United States has committed an “armed aggression” against the country. In a statement released today, the ministry condemned the attacks and expressed deep concern over the situation. The statement criticized the justifications offered for the attacks as unacceptable and called for a de-escalation of tensions. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the primary focus should be on achieving solutions through dialogue. The reaction comes amid reports that U.S. President Donald Trump announced the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro following the early morning attack on the country. Simultaneously, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has also strongly condemned the U.S. military actions against Venezuela, describing them as a “gross violation of national sovereignty and territorial integrity.” The ministry’s statement noted that this action constitutes a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and fundamental rules of international law, particularly the prohibition of the use of force. On the other hand, European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell mentioned that he has discussed the situation in Venezuela with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the EU Ambassador in Caracas, closely monitoring the developments. He added that the EU has repeatedly stated that it does not recognize Nicolás Maduro’s government and supports a peaceful transfer of power.
