TEHRAN: Human rights organization Hengaw has reported that on Thursday, the death sentences of ten prisoners were carried out in various prisons across Iran, including Qazalhasar in Karaj, Qom, Yazd, Aligudarz, Kermanshah, and Borazjan. Among those executed, four were Afghan citizens. According to the report, the executed individuals included 54-year-old Rohullah Hakimi, 23-year-old Nizam Hakimi, and 44-year-old Allahbakhsh Mirjahani, who were executed in Qom, along with Mehredad Irvani. Another Afghan citizen, whose identity remains unknown, was executed alongside 39-year-old Reza Aqajani in Qazalhasar prison in Karaj. Hengaw noted that most of these individuals were convicted of murder or drug-related offenses. The organization stated that no official source in Iran has confirmed this news. However, in August alone, at least 152 prisoners were executed in Iran, marking the highest monthly figure in recent years. Human rights organizations report that the execution of Afghan citizens in Iran has increased dramatically. In the first four months of 2025, at least 25 Afghans were executed, with five more in May. In 2024, at least 80 Afghan citizens were hanged, a figure three times higher than in 2023. Human rights activists have warned that the processes of arrest and trial in Iran do not align with fair trial standards, and Afghan migrants, due to their vulnerable status and lack of support, are more likely to face unjust sentences.
