Recent casualties from aftershocks in Eastern Afghanistan

JALALABAD: Local Taliban authorities in Nangarhar have reported that at least 13 people, including two women, have died following an earthquake on the morning of Friday. Qari Quraishi Badloon, head of the information department for the Taliban in Nangarhar, stated that the majority of the damage occurred in the Dara Noor district, where approximately 300 homes were destroyed. He warned that the death toll could rise. He mentioned that the earthquake was particularly severe in the Sutan Dara and Mujgandol areas, causing panic among the residents. Local sources indicate that hundreds of families from Sutan Dara, Mujgandol, Otran, Bembekot, and Sarghlik have fled to Jalalabad city due to fears of aftershocks, including many women and children. In Laghman, Abdul Malik Niazi, the spokesperson for the Taliban governor, reported that nine people were injured, with some in critical condition. From last night until this morning, five consecutive earthquakes shook Kunar and Nangarhar, with the strongest measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale near Asadabad. One person was reported dead and 14 were injured in Suki and central Kunar. These tremors were also felt in Kabul and Panjshir.
