Portuguese authorities reported that the tram left the tracks, leading to a human tragedy. At least 15 people lost their lives, and 17 others were hospitalized with various injuries. The Gloria tram is one of the most popular tourist transport routes in Lisbon, used by hundreds of visitors daily.
