New Radio station “Cheragh” starts operation in Kandahar

KANDAHAR: A new local radio station named “Cheragh” has commenced broadcasting in Kandahar province. Hayat Khan Hemat, the station’s manager, announced during the opening ceremony that “Cheragh” will feature political, news, Islamic, cultural, and educational programming. He emphasized the commitment to providing high-quality and professional broadcasts. Cultural advocate Zaher Jan Sark also noted the significant role of radio in society, as it is widely listened to in homes, and stressed the importance of the new station finding its place among the public. Additionally, Abid Agha, the Information Officer of the Taliban’s Information and Culture Directorate in Kandahar, described the opening of Cheragh Radio as a positive step and assured comprehensive cooperation. He emphasized that the Information and Culture Directorate supports media initiatives and that free media can operate within the framework of Taliban principles to benefit society. Currently, 12 private media outlets are operating in Kandahar province.
