KABUL: Hamid Obaidi, the head of the Afghan Media Support Organization (AMSO), addressed the current state and challenges of media in Afghanistan during a meeting in Oslo, Norway. Obaidi, who participated in the “Pan Norway” conference, stated that Afghan media operates under severe scrutiny from the Taliban and faces numerous restrictions. He emphasized the urgent need for practical support from the international community, particularly from the Norwegian government, to ensure the safety of Afghan journalists, strengthen media organizations, and protect freedom of expression. According to AMSO, Obaidi mentioned Afghan journalists facing difficulties in third countries such as Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and India. He urged international organizations to pay special attention to the situation of these journalists. AMSO highlighted that Obaidi called on international institutions to assist Afghan journalists through visa provision, training programs, job opportunities, and mental health support. He insisted that this assistance should continue until Afghan journalists reach safe countries.
