KABUL: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), said they are working to prevent the production of goods that contribute to child malnutrition by supporting local economies and domestic production in Afghanistan. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban for Administrative Affairs, Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanafi, met with UNICEF’s Executive Deputy Director and Operational Manager, Ted Chaiban, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement from Arg on Saturday. The UNICEF Executive Deputy Director expressed commitment to ongoing support for the education sector and returning refugees, highlighting that the development of economic programs is a priority for UNICEF. The organization aims to create job opportunities for returning refugees. Mawlavi Abdul Salam Hanifi praised UNICEF’s collaboration with the Afghan people, particularly with Afghan refugees returning from neighboring countries. He noted the increasing number of returning refugees in recent months and the measures taken by the Taliban to address their issues. He urged UNICEF and other relevant international organizations to pay special attention to securing the rights of refugees and ensuring their permanent residency.
