TEL AVIV: In a security cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, opposed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan for the complete occupation of the Gaza Strip, calling it a “trap” for the military. Zamir suggested a gradual advance to ensure the safety of Israeli hostages. However, Netanyahu insists on occupying Deir al-Balah, Gaza City, and the central Gaza camps. Currently, the Israeli army controls about 75% of the Gaza Strip. At the same time, Yair Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s son, accused Eyal Zamir on Twitter of attempting a “military coup,” escalating tensions between the two parties.
