KABUL: The Afghanistan Journalists Center has said that at least seven journalists and media activists have been detained in Kabul and another province. In a statement released yesterday, the center expressed concern over the recent wave of arrests and called on the Taliban government to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of journalists and media activists, urging the immediate release of those detained. According to the Afghanistan Journalists Center, these arrests were made by the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and intelligence officials in Kabul and another province over the past three weeks, during which their equipment was confiscated. The center also mentioned that due to security concerns, the identities and further details of the detained journalists and media activists will not be disclosed.
