Conjoined twins separated successfully in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH: Saudi surgeons have successfully separated conjoined twins at the King Abdullah Children’s Hospital in Riyadh, Arab media has reported. The twins, Selin and Elin, who are 17 months old, were joined at the lower chest and abdomen. The complex separation surgery lasted eight hours and was performed in six stages by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah, a leading specialist at the hospital, with the collaboration of over 30 experts in surgery, anesthesia, and nursing. This surgical team is considered one of the most advanced in the world and has previously conducted many successful similar surgeries. The twins were born on February 28, 2024, in Beirut alongside a healthy brother, after being transferred to Saudi Arabia in December 2024, they underwent careful examinations. The current condition of 17-month-old Selin and Elin is reported to be good, and with post-surgery care, a full recovery is expected.
