BERLIN: Germany has strongly condemned China’s targeting of one of its aircraft with a laser during European Union operations. The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Chinese ambassador today, officially complaining about the incident.
The EU operation, known as “ASPIDES,” aims to ensure maritime security.
The German Foreign Ministry stated on its X account that “endangering personnel and disrupting operations is entirely unacceptable.”
This incident comes amid growing concerns within the EU about China’s increasing influence over critical technologies and security infrastructure in Europe.
So far, neither the Chinese Foreign Ministry nor the European Commission has commented on the matter.
The ASPIDES mission focuses on maritime security and the safe passage of vessels, particularly in the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and the Persian Gulf, as part of the EU’s security and defense strategies.
