GAZA: Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated that merely establishing a ceasefire in Gaza is insufficient and must lead to a sustainable solution.
In a statement, Guterres emphasized that the lives of 5 million Palestinians living in their homeland without basic rights contradict the principles of humanity and international law.
He added, “It is essential that this ceasefire leads to a solution, and this is only possible when Palestinians and Israelis can have a state where their rights are respected.”
The UN Secretary-General described the situation in Gaza as “terrible,” noting that the region is experiencing unprecedented death and destruction that severely undermines the dignity of its people.
Guterres also announced plans for a conference in July focused on the two-state solution and expressed hope that both sides could overcome obstacles to achieve a sustainable ceasefire.
He concluded by emphasizing, “We certainly need a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”
