KABUL: Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, reacted to the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the group’s leader and chief justice, stating that they do not recognize such an institution and have no obligation to it.

In an audio message, Mujahid said: “We do not recognize any institution by the name of the International Criminal Court, nor do we have any obligation to it. Such rulings cannot affect the firm will and religious position of the Islamic Emirate.”

He criticized the court’s performance regarding the Gaza conflict, adding: “The genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is continuing by Israel, supported by countries backing this regime. Every day, hundreds of children and women are killed without reason, and this court remains silent about it. Their claims of human rights are shameful.”

The International Criminal Court announced today that it had issued an arrest warrant for Hebatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the group’s chief justice, on charges of “crimes against humanity.”
