KABUL: The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reported that Afghanistan is among the 20 countries with the highest number of unvaccinated children.
According to UNICEF, only 16.2% of Afghan children are fully vaccinated.
“The estimates show that vaccines could prevent between 4.9 to 5.4 million deaths in Afghanistan between 2021 and 2030,” the report said.
UNICEF emphasized its commitment to supporting Afghan children with the help of Japan.
Additionally, the World Food Program previously announced that four million mothers and children in Afghanistan are facing malnutrition.
The program warned that by 2025, 3.5 million children will be at risk of hunger.
This situation persists despite ongoing polio vaccination campaigns, as the disease has not yet been eradicated in Afghanistan.
