NEW DELHI: India’s Interior Minister, Amit Shah, has declared that New Delhi will never revive the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, stating that water previously allocated to Pakistan will now be diverted for domestic use.

This decision comes in the wake of the killing of 26 civilians in Indian-administered Kashmir, although Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack.

The Indus Water Treaty, signed in 1960 between the two countries, ensured access to water for 80% of Pakistan’s agricultural land through three rivers that originate in India.

In an interview with The Times of India, Amit Shah stated, “No, it will never be revived.” He further added, “We will divert the water that previously went to Pakistan by constructing a canal to Rajasthan, and Pakistan will be deprived of this water.”
