KABUL: Atali Gunla-Platz and Jessica Ludwig from the George W. Bush Institute have warned that the Taliban’s extremism, corruption, and violence pose a global threat.
Many Afghans who sought refuge in the United States due to their cooperation with America are at risk of Taliban retaliation, and returning them to Afghanistan could jeopardize their lives.
The authors highlight a growing indifference among some U.S. policymakers who overlook the real dangers posed by the Taliban and their connections to terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and the Haqqani Network.
The Bush Institute has demonstrated that the Taliban’s claims of reducing corruption and violence are false; instead, they have exacerbated the living conditions in Afghanistan through systematic corruption, violence, and tyranny.
The article emphasizes that the Taliban’s superficial support for women, while simultaneously suppressing their rights, serves only as a political facade. The Taliban have removed women from public life and resorted to sexual violence.
The authors warn that the oppression of women is a threat to democracy and human rights everywhere, and it must be confronted, as this injustice is deep and systemic in Afghanistan.
