WASHINGTON: A federal judge in the United States has ordered the Trump administration to take immediate action to process the cases of approximately 12,000 asylum seekers who received travel permits to the U.S.
before January 20, 2025. This ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by refugee advocacy organizations.
The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) reported that this order was issued following complaints from human rights groups, which emphasized that many asylum seekers, including Afghan colleagues of the U.S.
government, are in unsafe situations and require expedited travel permits.
The court’s ruling mandates that the Trump administration must begin implementing this order without restrictions. Additionally, if the administration fails to take necessary actions by May 12, it will face judicial sanctions.
Advocacy groups have warned that further delays could put the lives of thousands at risk.
