Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said ahead of the start of talks between Iran and the United States in Switzerland that Washington’s inability to secure and maintain a ceasefire in Lebanon would be among the key issues in the upcoming negotiations. Baqaei stated on Saturday that the American side, as Iran’s negotiating counterpart, has a responsibility to oblige Israel to halt its attacks and to prevent further escalation of violence in the region. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also emphasized that Tehran has consistently remained committed to its obligations and expects the other side to fulfill its own commitments and responsibilities as well. These remarks come as representatives of Iran and the United States are scheduled to hold talks in Switzerland on regional developments and certain disputed issues.
