French President Emmanuel Macron, following the announcement of an agreement between Iran and the United States, stressed that Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium must be neutralized and placed under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Macron said the sensitive material should either be removed from Iran or diluted, and subsequently placed under the complete oversight of the IAEA. At the same time, CNN, citing U.S. intelligence sources, reported that Iran had destroyed some tunnels at the Isfahan nuclear facility and mined access routes to them, making it more difficult to reach potential stockpiles of highly enriched uranium. Iranian officials have also stated that discussions regarding the country’s nuclear program and uranium stockpiles will be postponed to a second round of talks after the signing of an agreement to end the conflict.
