TEHRAN — Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, has said Tehran has no trust in guarantees or promises, adding that the only meaningful criterion is the conduct of the opposing side. In a post published on Friday, May 29, Qalibaf said Iran secures concessions not through negotiations, but through what he described as “power and preparedness”. He added that the winner of any agreement is the side that remains fully prepared for possible scenarios even after a deal is reached. According to Qalibaf, Iran will not take any step before the other side acts first. The remarks come amid recent reports of progress in negotiations between Iran and the United States, with Qatar acting as a mediator. According to informed sources, one of the main issues discussed in the indirect talks has been the release of Iranian assets frozen abroad.
