US Considers New $250 Banknote Featuring Trump

WASHINGTON — The United States government is preparing for the possible introduction of a new $250 banknote that could feature the image of President Donald Trump, if approved by lawmakers. Under current US federal law, living individuals are prohibited from appearing on American currency. However, Trump allies in Congress have introduced proposed legislation that would create an exception in this case. A spokesperson for the US Treasury Department said the department is “conducting the necessary planning and evaluations” in response to the proposed measure. Lawmakers backing the initiative say the denomination would symbolize the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, which will be marked this year. If approved, it would mark the first time in modern US history that the image of a sitting or living president appears on an official American banknote, a move likely to trigger broad political and legal debate.
