A US official has said that American forces carried out new strikes against Iranian-linked targets, adding that Iranian drones deemed a threat to US forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz were targeted in the attacks. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said a US airstrike early on Thursday (28 May) targeted an area near Bandar Abbas airport. The IRGC added that a US air base described as the “source of the aggression” had subsequently been targeted. The IRGC did not provide details about the location of the base. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s military said its air defence systems had intercepted several “hostile” missile and drone attacks. The United States maintains military bases in several countries across the region, including Kuwait.
