Hannah Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, has said that no meetings with Taliban officials should take place in Europe as long as what she described as “gender apartheid” in Afghanistan continues. In a post on X on Thursday 21 May, she said that the European Commission has invited the Taliban to Brussels for talks on the deportation of Afghan migrants. Neumann added that as long as the Taliban continue to violate human rights, impose gender apartheid, and promote extremism, no engagement with them should be held in Europe. Recently, the European Union invited Taliban representatives to Brussels to discuss the deportation of Afghan migrants and facilitate their return. Previously, several European countries, including Germany and Austria, have also held talks with the Taliban on deportation issues and have returned a number of Afghan nationals in coordination with the group.
