Afghanistan’s Mehdi Yaqubi claimed a convincing victory in his opening match at the 2026 World Taekwondo Junior Championships. Competing in the under 45kg category, Yaqubi defeated Armenia’s David Danielyan 2–0, winning 12–6 in the first round and 14–7 in the second to advance to the round of 32. Meanwhile, fellow Afghan athlete Sadis Sikandar was eliminated after losing to Kyrgyzstan’s Artur Ismayilov in the under 73kg division. The tournament is being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 12 to April 17.
