Concerns Raised Over Detained Journalists in Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization has expressed concern over the condition of three detained journalists — Shakib Nazari, Bashir Hashemi, and Hamid Farahi — saying they are in poor psychological condition. In a statement, the organisation said neglecting their health situation constitutes a serious violation of human rights and principles of freedom of expression. It called for the immediate and unconditional release of the three journalists. According to the group, the detention of journalists, particularly under psychological pressure, violates international standards and humanitarian values. The organisation also urged United Nations, Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Without Borders, and other humanitarian bodies to step up efforts to ensure the safety and freedom of journalists in Afghanistan.
