Floods and Collapsing Homes in Afghanistan Leave 99 Dead, Hundreds Injured

Local officials in Maidan Wardak and Nangarhar provinces have reported that at least nine people, including women and children, have been killed and nine others injured due to the collapse of house roofs. In Maidan Wardak, heavy rainfall caused the roof of a house to collapse in Jaghatu district, killing one woman and two children and leaving two others injured. In Nangarhar, roof collapses in the districts of Pachiragam, Khogyani, and Spin Ghar resulted in the deaths of six people and injuries to seven others. Many of the victims are reported to be children. Over the past ten days, most provinces of Afghanistan have experienced heavy rainfall and widespread flooding. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the total number of casualties from recent natural disasters has reached 99 dead and 154 injured. Additionally, around 6,000 families have been affected, and more than 3,600 homes have been destroyed. In the past 24 hours alone, 11 people have been killed and another 11 injured across multiple provinces, including Kabul, Parwan, Daikundi, Kapisa, Paktia, Paktika, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Zabul, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Herat, Badghis, Ghor, Nimroz, Samangan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar. Furthermore, approximately 11,700 jeribs of agricultural land and 337 kilometers of roads have been destroyed. These incidents highlight the severity of damage caused by heavy rains and flooding in Afghanistan, leaving thousands of families displaced and homeless.
