Iran Confirms Killing of IRGC Navy Commander in Airstrike

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed in a statement the killing of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of its naval forces, in an airstrike attributed to Israel and the United States. According to the statement, Tangsiri was targeted along Iran’s southern coast and died due to the severity of his injuries. The Israeli military had announced his death four days earlier. Tangsiri had served as commander of the IRGC Navy since September 2018, and Israeli officials had identified him as a key figure behind plans related to closing the Strait of Hormuz. Israel’s public broadcasting organization also reported that a number of officers from the IRGC command staff were killed alongside him.
