Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has called for the resumption of negotiations with Iran, citing rising oil and gas prices and the need to reduce tensions in the Middle East. Speaking at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Australia in the city of Canberra, she said the time had come to return to the negotiating table and bring an end to the conflict. Von der Leyen stressed that rising energy prices have had chain effects on the global economy, affecting trade activities and people’s daily lives. According to her, the current situation in the Middle East has reached a sensitive stage in terms of global energy supply. She also emphasized the need to reach a solution through dialogue, saying that reducing tensions in the region could help stabilize global energy markets.
