KABUL: The popular messaging application WhatsApp is preparing to introduce an optional premium subscription plan alongside its free services, currently available in beta form for a limited number of users. According to WhatsApp, the goal of the premium plan is to provide users with additional and advanced features while ensuring that core features such as messaging, voice and video calls, and media sharing remain completely free. Potential premium features included in the beta version are special sticker packs, new themes, changes to the application’s appearance, the ability to pin more chats, distinct sounds for chat notifications, and the option to customize the app’s icon. The company stated that these features aim to offer users a more personalized and unique experience within WhatsApp. WhatsApp emphasized that this subscription will be entirely optional, and users who do not opt for the premium plan will still be able to use the basic services of the app at no cost. So far, the company has not announced pricing for the premium plan, the latest features, or an official launch date. WhatsApp noted that this model is being introduced solely for additional features, giving users full autonomy to choose whether or not to subscribe based on their needs and preferences.
