WFP launches EU-backed projects to support Afghan women’s livelihood

KABUL: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that it has implemented several projects for women in Afghanistan with financial support from the European Union. According to the WFP, the projects are aimed at enhancing women’s economic empowerment and creating job opportunities for them. The organization indicated that the goals of the implemented projects include improving access to financial services for women and strengthening small businesses under female leadership. The WFP noted that approximately 75% of Afghans are facing severe economic challenges, and it reported that 88% of households led by women are deprived of basic necessities. The organization highlighted the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women in Afghanistan, stating that currently, only 7% of women have the right to work. The WFP emphasized that with the support of the European Union, the projects for women in Afghanistan will improve the livelihoods of people and enable women to work towards enhancing their families’ economic conditions.
