TEHRAN: The United Nations Human Rights Council is set to hold an emergency meeting next Friday regarding the “violence against protesters” in Iran. Reuters reports that Iceland’s ambassador to the UN, Einar Gunnarsen, has sent a letter to several countries, including the UK and Germany, requesting this meeting concerning Iran. The letter highlights the necessity of convening a special session, stating, “Protesters in Iran have been suppressed, and international laws have been violated.” The UN has confirmed that the meeting will take place on Friday, and so far, 21 countries have agreed to participate in this session on Iran. Meanwhile, a human rights monitoring organization has described the situation in Iran as “systematic illegality” and called for an investigation into the matter. The Iranian representative at the UN has not yet commented on the upcoming meeting.
