KABUL: Amnesty International has criticized Pakistan for the illegal arrest and mistreatment of Afghan refugees, as well as for forcibly sending them back to Afghanistan. In a letter addressed to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the organization urged the government to halt the expulsion of Afghan refugees. The letter emphasizes that Pakistani authorities must ensure that the rights of Afghan refugees are respected and that they are not forcibly removed from camps and shelters. According to a report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in 2025, approximately 930,000 Afghans have been expelled from Pakistan back to Afghanistan.
