KABUL: The International Crime Observatory’s new ranking for 2025 shows that Afghanistan has been placed 11th in the realm of international organized crime. These crimes include illegal activities, illicit trade, and transactions with trafficking networks. According to the ranking, a significant portion of Afghanistan’s private sector is linked to the informal economy, with around 80% of economic activities taking place outside official regulations. This situation presents challenges for monitoring and controlling criminal activities, the report noted that economic crises and harsh conditions have also contributed to the growth of money laundering, illegal financial services, and trafficking networks. In this ranking, Mexico holds the highest position for criminal markets, followed by Myanmar and Colombia. Iran, Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, India, and Pakistan are also included in this list. The International Crime Foundation publishes reports annually on global crimes, aiming to equip governments, international organizations, and policymakers with the information needed to effectively combat criminal networks.
