KABUL: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has announced that it has initiated a vaccination campaign against a deadly disease known as “sheep and goat pox,” which threatens sheep and goats in Afghanistan. With support from the UK, the FAO reported that it has vaccinated 3 million animals this month to safeguard the livelihoods of herders, food security, and the nutrition of the population. The FAO emphasized that animal health is directly linked to the health of households, and extensive vaccination can prevent the spread of disease and ensure the livelihoods of people. This effort comes at a time when many Afghans rely on livestock and agricultural resources to meet their daily living expenses.
