KABUL: Following a visit by a U.S. delegation to Kabul, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that every American citizen detained illegally should be released. Rubio confirmed this statement while addressing reporters before traveling to the Middle East, although he did not provide details on whether both sides would soon agree to a prisoner exchange. He mentioned that Adam Bohler, the U.S. President’s special envoy for hostage affairs, is in Kabul to explore the possibilities surrounding this issue. He emphasized that the delegation’s purpose in Kabul is to assess whether a prisoner exchange could take place. Rubio noted that the final decision regarding such exchanges would be made by President Donald Trump, but he reiterated that every American detained illegally anywhere should be freed. U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, is also accompanying the American delegation on this trip, but he has yet to make any statements regarding the matter.
