Taliban urges preachers to encourage repentance during Earthquake

KABUL: The Taliban’s Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Religious Affairs issued a directive on Thursday instructing preachers to tell the public during Friday prayers that “sin, disobedience to God’s commands, and the commission of crimes are reasons for earthquakes among Muslims.” The ministry added that preachers are required to read this message in mosques tomorrow (Friday). The text states, “Earthquakes in this world are a punishment for Muslims.” It also advises that during an earthquake, people should turn to God in supplication, seek forgiveness, and engage in worship and piety to prevent such occurrences in the future. However, geologists emphasize that earthquakes primarily occur due to tectonic plate movements and fault activity, and they are not related to human actions or beliefs. This is not the first time the Taliban have ignored their responsibilities toward the public. Previously, the group’s leader stated that poverty and hunger are from God and should not be complained about. Observers note that this comes at a time when the Taliban have repeatedly detained, tortured, and killed innocent people, violating the rights of half the population.
